Sore Breasts

Throughout pregnancy, your breasts will have been responding to pregnancy hormones, in preparation for producing milk after the birth.  The main symptom of this will be an increase in the size of your breasts.  They may be quite sore at first and uncomfortable later on.

A well-fitting bra will help, but it does need to be properly fitted.  Research has shown that many women wear bras that are actually the wrong size, so this is a good opportunity to get properly fitted.

The bra you wear during pregnancy will not be the same as the specially designed bras for breastfeeding, which should not be fitted until just before the birth.  And although your breast will initially increase in size once your milk comes in, once breastfeeding is established, your breast size will decrease as you will only produce the amount of milk your baby needs.
