Show
This is a description of the mucus discharge that appears from the vagina at the beginning of labour.
It is usually slightly blood-stained and may even look pink in colour, and can appear as quite a large clot of mucus. This 'cervical plug' is also known as the operculum, and it is designed to form a barrier at the cervix between the womb and the vagina. The show may occur at any time during the first stage of labour, (or even a day or two before labour begins), or may not be noticed at all, especially if it coincides with the waters breaking.
