Mamas & Papas Mylo Pushchair

This new high-end pushchair should be the answer to all the niggles you’d have with other posh options and it looks good, too

Mamas & Papas pride themselves on quality pushchairs, especially within the mid-price market, but after the success of their funky upmarket Skate a couple of years ago, they have now launched the Mylo.
Already sported about London when pop singer Gwen Stefani was seen in town with her toddler Zuma, the Mylo is an upmarket pushchair that’s flexible and stylishly-designed. Once you’ve loaded up the funky extras, you’re looking at around a cool £1000 spend – but you can buy an impressive set of Mylo kit for a humble starter price of £695…

Content as well as style

The first thing to notice about the Mylo and its various accessories is the classy look – available in rich colours on cosy fabrics, the Mylo freewheels around like the best systems on the market. It’s available in contemporary shades to suit male and female tastes: Black Jack, Welly Green, Dove Grey, Raspberry Ripple, Sandcastle, Lime Jelly, and Plum Pudding. As with much of M&P’s fleet, you can mix and match the colours of the hood, carrycot etc to create your own look in all-matching or contrasting tones.
The main chassis is perched on four wheels, with a sleek outline that’s as easy to use – pushing, folding, adapting for your baby as a pram or pushchair – as it’s simple lines suggest.
M&P claim the Mylo is a push that gives you the feel of ‘power steering’; the combination of super-light chassis, free-moving wheels and the adjustable-height handlebar certainly contribute to the sensation of being solidly in control without the weighty load that usually comes with mega-pushchairs.
Plus the Mylo does fold into a very neat compact package when you remove the carrycot or pushchair seat. However, M&P also appreciate that not all of us what to start taking the wheels etc off our pushchair every time we take it in and out of the car boot; thus, the one-hand mechanism that so impressively draws it into a flat little package will also fold up pretty compact when the seat is still fitted to the chassis.

Get your money’s worth – use it as a bed, too

The carrycot, which is included in the £695 basic package, is roomy and comfortable, making it a useful crib in the earliest months. (Suitable for baby to sleep in until he is able to sit up.) This makes the Mylo good value compared alongside some other types of pushchair, where the basic package for around £450 then requires you to add a carrycot and other kit.
With the Mylo, add the carrycot stand for £60, and you have an overnight cot when you’re staying away from home.
Many larger pram/pushchair models appeal for the first months but then seem just too bulky once your child really only needs a lighter pushchair and again this can really make your first pushchair seem like a bit of a luxury spend with limited use. However, once the Mylo is set as a pushchair, it’s light and easy to use until your child no longer needs a pushchair at all. Plus the seat can be switched from rear- to forward-facing without much effort, so it’s flexible for use with smaller infants or curious toddlers who want to see where they’re going.
