Leicester High School is an independent day school for girls aged 3-18, on the south side of Leicester. We have been educating girls for over a hundred years, and we know that girls do better together. They are free to be themselves, learn in their own unique way, and do not hold themselves back. This means they develop quickly and confidently, and exceed their potential. The school has outstanding pastoral care and excellent academic results. We are top of the league tables for GCSEs in Leicestershire in the Daily Telegraph 2010.

Girls can start as young as 3 in the Early Years Foundation Unit, which has specialist teachers and facilities for girls aged 3-5. This unit is part of the Junior Department, which is for girls aged from 3-10, and it is in a separate building from the main school. With its own playground, play equipment, pond, garden and outside play area, the girls feel part of a small and safe community.

Laura Fowler, Head of the Junior Department, says,  LHS Junior Department is like a second family to all of our girls. We are a small school of 110, so everyone knows each other. The excellent adult-to- pupil ratio and level of care enables every girl to develop in confidence.”

As one Year 2 said, I think the school is the best school in the world and the universe. Thank you.”  There are strong links with the adjoining Senior School to enable a smooth transition from Year 5 onwards.

The Senior School has a new £3.5m extension incorporating 6 state of the art science labs, an art and design studio, IT facilities for languages and light, spacious classrooms. The school is very involved in the community: high proportions of the girls take the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and charity work at the school is phenomenal. Science and maths are popular subjects here, and all three sciences are taught separately from Year 7. Debating is strength of the school, and in sport we dominate the Leicestershire Leagues at badminton. There are over 50 clubs, 100 trips, 12 sports, 17 GCSE and 23 A level subjects to choose from. Mrs Julia Burns, Headmistress, says, “There are no limits to what women can achieve, so it is our duty to inspire them.”

You are most welcome at any time to call in and visit us with your daughter and discover what makes Leicester High school so special.
