We aim to provide a stimulating and caring environment in which the children can feel secure and confident.  There are close links with the Prep, some of whose specialist staff also teach in the Pre-Prep.  This arrangement means that the Pre-Prep children become familiar with the staff and routines of the Prep thus ensuring a happy successful transition.

National Curriculum principles are combined with traditional values to provide a broad and balanced curriculum and the staff report regularly to parents.  Our approach to the teaching and learning of the basic skills of reading, writing, mathematics and science is very effective and gives our children solid foundations for future learning, encouraging them to become self motivated individuals.

Throughout the Pre-Prep music is taught by a specialist and all children take part in concerts and performances throughout the year.  Individual instrumental lessons may be arranged to take place in school.  Dance lessons which develop co-ordination, spatial awareness and body strength are also available.  ICT also features strongly.  In addition, a wide range variety of clubs provide an opportunity for children to further explore many different areas of the creative and expressive arts.  We also provide a reliable after school care facility to children from 4 to 7 years of age, should parents wish their child to be looked after beyond the end of the school day.

We are one of the oldest schools in the land and have educated the Cathedral Choristers for well over 700 years.  We have a reputation as one of the foremost music schools in the area but also boast high academic achievement and good sporting results.   Eighty seven percent of last year’s leavers from the Prep school obtained scholarships to their public schools.
