Chester Zoo

Voted as "Best Large Tourist Attraction" in 2006, Chester Zoo has over 500 different species (7,000 actual animals) and award-winning gardens stretching over a 500 acre site.  Conservation is at the heart of the zoo and around half of these animals are threatened.  This is an enormous day out for the whole family, there is so much to see and do, especially for children.

Wild Walk Trail

There is a Wild Walk Trail to discover all sorts of interesting facts about animals and plants in their natural habitats, there are fact sheets on various species, you can learn what a Day in a Keeper’s Life is like, there are hands-on activities, plus the Fun Ark Adventure Playground which is conveniently located near to the Ark Restaurant.

Chester Zoo Facilities

There are various cafes, ice-cream kiosks and shops all around the zoo, and during the summer there is face painting at the Fountain Shop, plus various picnic spots with tables both inside and outside.  Pushchair accessibility is excellent and there are baby-changing facilities too.

Birthday Parties at Chester Zoo

For that extra special birthday you could have your party at Chester Zoo, with a party at Oakfield Manor before exploring the Zoo.

Chester Zoo Opening Times

Open all year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day from 10am to approx 5pm (last entry 3pm in winter).

We strongly recommend you ring Chester Zoo before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Chester Zoo, www.chesterzoo.org, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Chester Zoo hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
