Hedingham Castle's Norman keep, 110 feet high, was built c.1140 by Aubrey de Vere and is still owned by one of his descendants. A visit to the castle and its beautiful grounds is ideal for a family outing. During the summer the castle plays host to a variety of special events bringing its colourful history alive. Events include; hog roasts, birds of prey displays, jousting tournaments and open air theatre (see website for details.) Although the steep, spiral stairs inside the castle are very impractical for buggies and toddlers, there is much to do outside. There
We strongly recommend you ring Hedingham Castle before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Hedingham Castle, www.hedinghamcastle.co.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Hedingham Castle hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
