New website offers support for parents of children with allergies

Having a baby or young child with a cow's milk allergy can be an extremely stressful experience for any parent, specially when undiagnosed.

New research from Abbott Nutrition about children suffering from cow's milk allergy, shows that parents suspecting their baby or child has a cow's milk allergy can expect to wait 6 and a half weeks for a disgnosis. This can be an extremely stressful time for parents, with no sign of the stress subsiding on diagnosis.

Cow's milk allergy is one of the most common food alergies, and usually develops within the first year year of a child's life, effecting up to 3.5% of babies. Luckily most babies grow out of this, with 50% growing out of the condition by the time they are a year old, and the rest typically growing out of it by 5 years.

One mother Rachelle Anderson, endured a 14 week wait before her son Nate was correctly diagnosed with cow's milk allergy.  “At first I was exclusively breastfeeding but from an early age I felt there was something not quite right. Nate’s my second child and his feeding was very different to my first.  At 10 days old, he just stopped feeding; he would turn away, arch his back and he looked like he was in a lot of pain. It was a very stressful time for my husband and I.”

Abbott Nutrition's newly launched website MomenTums.co.uk aims to help ease the worries of parents of babies and children suffering from cow's milk and other allergies, offering advice, information and even recipies.

So if your child has or you suspect an allergy visit momentums.co.uk.
