A lovely 16th century house with a stunning Great Hall, where it is reputed Shakespeare once performed. Lots of activities for children particularly at Easter, during the August holidays and at Halloween. Plus there is an arms and armoury collection, lovely gardens with topiary displays and a children's quiz trail, plus an archaeological sand pit dig, a gnome hunt, craft making u2013 and Early Learning toys in a room in the house for smaller children while the others go around the house (NB a parent must be with the child). There are baby-changing facilities and a children's menu in the café. The house is open from March to October 1pm to 5pm, the gardens from 11am to 5pm, and during November to December the gardens are open from 12 noon to 4pm.
We strongly recommend you ring Rufford Old Hall before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Rufford Old Hall, www.nationaltrust.org.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Rufford Old Hall hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
