1,600 acre estate surrounding a beautiful medieval house with Elizabethan extensions. Lots of open spaces to walk in and picnic, including two lakes and a superb rock garden. The castle is rich in wonderful antiques, ceramics and paintings, and of particular note is the series of oak-panelled rooms culminating in the Inlaid Chamber. There are two lots of quizzes for children to take around the house, one for older children and one for the 3-5 year olds. The Tea Room in the house is quite formal, but a new more family-friendly cafeteria will be open by July 2006 and will have children
We strongly recommend you ring Sizergh Castle before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Sizergh Castle, www.nationaltrust.org.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Sizergh Castle hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
