Beeston Castle

Tarporley, Cheshire

A wonderful medieval ruined castle on a rocky outcrop 500m above the Cheshire plain which dates back to 1225 abnd was used by Kind Edward I as a base for his campaigns against he Welsh until it was finally destroyed at the end of the Civil War. Masses of open space and trees for children to run around in, and during the summer there are various activities such as Medieval Swords & Shields (June), Victorian Circus (June), Stand & Deliver (July) and Wind in the Willows (August). Being on a hill, it is hard going for normal pushchairs and 3-wheelers are probably better. No café, but a hot drinks machine and cold drinks cabinet and plenty of places to picnic, and there are baby-changing facilities. Possible children's playground at the planning stage. Open daily in the summer from 10am to 6pm, and from Thursday to Monday in the Winter (October to March) from 10am to 4pm. Closed for Christmas and the New Year.

We strongly recommend you ring Beeston Castle before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Beeston Castle to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Beeston Castle hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
