New Silver Cross Surf
This pushchair, in stores by early March, embraces elements of spaceship design to create a lightweight but sturdy pushchair from birth
The Silver Cross Surf is nearing its launch date (early March) and having seen this at the Excel Nursery Show in 2009 customers are in for a treat. It has a seat unit that can be used from birth (ie you don’t need to buy the separate carrycot – although it looks really nice) and the rear wheels have an air-sprung suspension creating an extra-smooth ride – hence the name (and it is good on all terrains including sand).
So as well as being stylish in an urban sort of way (colours are Linen, Slate and Black) it does all the necessary things like folding easily, being compact (perfect for a Classic Mini boot) and is really lightweight.
The high spec of the Silver Cross Surf is in part due to the use of a magnesium alloy (think spacecraft technology) which has implied strength without the weight, and with a single, height-adjustable handle – you really only need the lightest of touches to change direction. The seat unit can also be positioned in either direction – so you can gaze at your baby until you feel they’re ready to face the world. My only concerns are the size of the shopping basket (about the size of my fruit bowl) – but would you really want to spoil such a stylish pushchair with your clutter on display?
